Our Story

Carter and Christina Norrie own Dakota Gold Kennels and our 3 kids Damien, Layla and Skylar all help with the day-to-day training. We love our dogs and they are all raised inside our house and get to do what they love, HUNT!! Carter fell in love with dog training when he was 13 and got his first dog, he trained her by reading the book Water Dog and has never stopped training and learning. In 2010 we bought our first field golden Bella and fell in love with the breed. She passed in 2023 but will never be forgotten.

In 2019 our family decided it was best to get out of Active Duty Air Force after 14 years of moving around and return to North Dakota to give our kids the upbringing we wanted them to have. At the same time we saw a lack of quality bred golden retrievers and retriever trainers in the state and set out to fill both voids. We have acquired the top bloodlines from throughout the nation to be the foundations of our breeding program. All of our dogs are trained by Carter and the kids and hunted over by the whole family.

We are currently in the process of building our training grounds so that we can offer full service retriever training and boarding. We have 60 acres that we will be putting technical water on and we are turning our barn into a kennel area for summer training. Check back for frequent updates on our progression.
